Darjeepara Maternity Home to open doors in January

Kolkata: Darjeepara Maternity Home of Kolkata Municipal Corporation which has been thoroughly revamped and upgraded will be opened in January 2018.
The decision was taken at a meeting held between Atin Ghosh, member, Mayor in Council (Health) and Mohun Kumar Gupta, Trinamool Congress Councillor of ward 17.
The maternity home, which was facing closure due to neglect by the Left Front controlled KMC, has been upgraded.
The beds have been replaced, operation theatres have been upgraded and the building has been given a new look. The step to upgrade the maternity home was taken up by Atin Ghosh and Mohun Kumar Gupta to provide service to women coming from economically challenged background.
During the Left Front controlled KMC, the condition of the maternity homes had turned from bad to worse as there was no scope of cesarean operation. As a result, the would-be mothers preferred to go to state-run hospitals and avoided KMC-run maternity homes.
When Trinamool Congress took over KMC in 2010, Mamata Banerjee had asked the civic authorities to upgrade the maternity homes to provide service to local people.
