Darjeeling, Sikkim to witness snowfall in next 48 hours

Kolkata: In what may sound as music to the ears of the tourists who are presently in Darjeeling and Sikkim, the Alipore weather office on Tuesday predicted chances of snowfall at higher altitudes in the Hills and Sikkim in the next 24 hours.
"A western disturbance is existing in Rajasthan presently. It will move over to Bihar and sweep across North Bengal in the next 24 hours. Chances of rainfall are likely in all the five districts of North Bengal and most importantly, higher altitudes like Darjeeling and Sikkim may witness the first snowfall of this winter season," a senior official of Alipore weather office said. The temperature in Darjeeling was 6 degree Celsius on Tuesday and Kalimpong was at 9 degree Celsius. "Temperatures will dip in these two places in the next 48 hours," the official said.
Meanwhile, temperature in Kolkata on Monday was 13.2 degree Celsius and on Sunday it was 13.5.
