Cyclone over Arabian Sea to steer temperature rise

Kolkata: The city is likely to witness a sudden rise in the temperature this weekend due to the formation of a cyclone over Arabian Sea, said the Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore.

The weather office said the formation of cyclone over the Arabian Sea may not have a direct impact on the weather system in the state but the temperature will go up as the North-Western wind that brings cold waves into the state will be partially interrupted.

"The mercury will slightly go up on Saturday and Sunday in the state due to cyclone 'Pawan'. Due to cyclone, the steady flow of cold wind may be hampered resulting in a sudden rise of temperature in South Bengal districts," a senior weather official said.

The temperature started going down since the past couple days bringing a feel of winter in the city but it took a sudden turn following some changes in the weather in Western parts of the country. The temperature will again start rising from early next week as soon as the impact of the cyclone 'Pawan' is over. There is no possibility of rainfall in the state in the next couple of hours.

The sky will remain clear. People are likely witness mist early in the morning but it would disappear as the day will progress. The lowest temperature in the city and adjoining districts may hover around 17-18 degree Celsius in the next couple of days while the highest temperature may go up to 29 degree Celsius.

According to the weather office, there may an uninterrupted flow of chilling Northern wind in South Bengal districts from Tuesday which may set the stage for the winter to finally set in. The humidity-level may be slightly higher in the Western districts in the afternoon.
