Cyber Crime PS nabs student duo for faking FB account of school friend

Kolkata: The Cyber Crime police station of Kolkata Police arrested two persons on Thursday night for faking the Facebook account of their school friend and sending objectionable messages and pictures to some girls who were in the friends' list of the victim.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the duo was doing this as an act of vengeance for an old grudge.
It may be informed that a girl had lodged a complaint with the Ultadanga police station some days back against the victim, alleging that he had been sending her objectionable messages and contents through Facebook. During the course of investigation, sleuths learnt that the alleged victim, who hails from the Ultadanga area, was not responsible for sending such messages and it was some other person who had created a fake profile using the name of the victim and had been indulging in such practices. The Cyber Crime police station took up the probe on the basis of a fresh complaint of the victim and that led them to two youth — Avirup Pal and Ankush Dutta, who had created the fake profile and were behind the activities. The complainant had stated that a number of girls, who were in his friends list, had got a bad impression as objectionable contents were forwarded from his profile that was faked. Police sources informed that Avirup and Ankush, while in high school, had created a similar fake profile in the name of a girl who studied in the same class and had a premature death. It was the victim who had then raised his voice against their act and the duo was forced to seek forgiveness. "They had a grudge against the victim and they did this as an act of revenge," an investigating officer said. Police sources informed that Avirup is a resident of Dum Dum while Ankush is a resident of Birati and both of them study in the same college.
