CU prof files complaint against student, others for slapping him

Kolkata: An associate professor of the Chemical Engineering department of Calcutta University (CU) on Thursday lodged a complaint against a student and a few others at Amherst Street police station, alleging slapping on the left ear following an argument over the publication of review results.
As per the complaint of Bhaskar Chandra Das, the incident happened on Tuesday morning, when he was working in his room at the Rajabazar Science College campus of CU. He had named one Gourab Dutta Munshi, who had allegedly slapped him on his left ear, while seeking an explanation on a charter of demands that Das had sent to the vice-chancellor of the university. Munshi also allegedly threatened him of rustication from the department and the varsity and stopping of pension.
The professor further alleged abuse in the filthiest of languages, with some more students and even two professors of other departments being mute spectators to the matter. Das has urged the police to take necessary action against Munshi and treat his complaint as an FIR.
Vice-chancellor of CU Sonali Chakravarti Banerjee met Das at his chamber on Thursday and have assured him of action against the act.
It may be mentioned that Das has been associated with the Chemical Engineering department since May 1995 and is a permanent resident of Patharpratima in South 24-Parganas.
The Dean of Engineering and Technology Amlan Chakrabarti had said on Tuesday that there was a difference of opinion between the students and some teachers when they were discussing about some problems the students are facing.
