Crude bomb explosion kills one, leaves one injured

Kolkata: One person was killed and another was injured when a crude bomb exploded at a mango grove at Raghunathpur area under Samsergunj in Murshidabad on Sunday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Master Seikh while Jessi Seikh sustained critical injuries. According to the district police, the duo had taken the mango grove on lease recently.

On Sunday morning the victims visited the garden to plucked some mangoes from a tree. One of the victims stepped on a crude bomb kept near the tree and the bomb exploded causing serious injuries to both of them. Some of the local residents rushed to the spot hearing them screaming. They were taken to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital where Master Seikh succumbed to his injuries. The other victim was shifted to a hospital in Kolkata as his condition deteriorated. His health condition is stated to be serious. He has been kept under observation. The incident created a tension among residents.

The police reached the spot and initiated a probe. According to the preliminary investigation, the police suspect that some local miscreants had kept the bomb near the tree.

The officers are yet to ascertain if it was a deliberate incident to inflict injuries on the victims.

Some of the local residents alleged that the area is often frequented by miscreants.

It is said some people consumed alcohol inside the mango forest after the sundown. The police are trying to identify the accused who had kept the bomb there.

The family members of the deceased and the injured persons are being interrogated. Cops are also investigating if the victims had any rivalry with anyone.
