Crack develops on eastern range of Bagha Jatin flyover

Kolkata: A 2X2 feet crack suddenly developed at the eastern flank of the Bagha Jatin flyover at around 4.30 pm on Wednesday afternoon. A senior official of the Kolkata Police's traffic department informed that the affected place was immediately barricaded with guard rails.
There was partial disruption of traffic but the traffic department deployed additional force at the flyover for regulating the traffic.
Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) which is responsible for the maintenance of the flyover was immediately informed.
Urban Development minister Firhad Hakim along with KMDA CEO Soumitra Mohan rushed to the spot along with the engineers and started repair work on an urgent basis.
"There is no problem with the structure of the flyover. The crack developed with a small cluster of cement breaking down.
It will take 4 to 5 days to repair the crack," a senior KMDA engineer said.
Work has already started and engineers will be working overnight to repair the bridge. There was no disruption in traffic in both ways.
However, the movement was slow as the police had to barricade the damaged portion.
The flyover on EM Bypass is an important link with Sonarpur and Baruipur with Kolkata.
