Couple organises blood donation camp in Balurghat

Balurghat: A couple from Kurmile, on the outskirts here, organised a blood donation camp on Monday. Subhasis and Monika Barman had a son on February 20 and to mark the arrival of the new family member they held a blood donation camp to help people as blood crisis has been a persistent problem in the district.

The couple shared their idea with local NGOs and two organisations— Yuva Sangha and Moran— came forward to help the couple and conducted the blood donation camp in the district.

"This was a noble initiative by the couple. They celebrated the birth of their son by helping others. The blood bank here has been reeling under shortage of blood since the past few months. Subhasis and Monika have set example for others," said social worker and president of Moran Koushik Biswas, who took part in the blood donation camp.

Social worker Suraj Das, who also took part in the blood donation camp, said: "This is for the first time a couple from the district has come up with an idea to celebrate an occasion by helping others."

Around 36 people donated blood at the camp and among them 20 were first-timers.

Subhasis Barman said: "I and my wife wanted to do something very special for our son Riyan. We all know that there is a crisis of blood at the blood banks here. We contacted local NGOs and requested the authorities to conduct the camp as early as possible and they also responded quickly. We are happy that we could something noble for our son."
