Couple found dead in house, cops suspect family feud

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a couple whose bodies were found inside their house at Jungal village under Nalhati police station in Birbhum on Friday. The deceased have been identified as Ramprasad Mal (55) and his wife China Mal (46). Police said that after the marriage of their daughter, the couple used to live alone. Ramprasad used to work as a farmer. He also used to take part in chantings in groups. He used to take his wife to participate in the chantings of devotional songs in the villages. The local residents told the police that they often heard the couple quarreling over some issues.
They heard them shouting a little after midnight but the did not pay serious attention as it had become an everyday phenomenon. On Friday morning, the local residents found that the couple was not coming out of the house despite repeated calls. Finally, some of the local residents stepped into the house and found Ramprasad's body hanging from a bamboo in the ceiling while his wife was lying at a corner of the room. They informed the matter to the local police station who recovered the dead bodies and sent them for the post-mortem. Police suspect that the husband had killed his wife by strangulating her and later hanged himself. The cause is yet to be ascertained. There were injury marks around the wife's neck, police said. Police suspect that the husband had started suspecting his wife of developing an extra marital relationship. Police have started a detailed probe.
