Counselling to recruit headmasters from June 27

Kolkata: The West Bengal Central School Service Commission will start counseling for recruitment of headmasters /headmistresses in government aided and sponsored secondary and higher secondary schools across the state from June 27.

A notification undersigned by SSC chairman Soumitra Sarkar was released in the Commission's website on Tuesday. " We will make the detailed counselling programme available in the SSC website on June 26," Sarkar said. This counselling will not involve the Hill regions of the state. The move on the part of SSC came soon after Calcutta High Court lifted the interim stay in connection with recruitment of 2,243 heads of institutions. The examination for recruitment of headmasters/ headmistress was conducted in 2017 and 2,243 were empaneled. A good number of candidates are also in the waiting list. It may be mentioned that some writ petitions were filed at the Calcutta High Court after a notification regarding recruitment of teachers was brought out by SSC in January 2017.

More than seven such petitions were pending before the court. The state government had notified that those who have secured 50 percent or more in graduation will only be eligible for the Headmaster/ Headmistress post. This was 45 percent earlier. The main petition was filed challenging this notification of the state government. "A number of schools are being run with teacher- in charges at the helm because of this problem. With the HC's order we will be able to recruit suitable candidates," an official in the Education department said.
