Cops seize two scooters, ammunition

Kolkata: Police have seized two scooters and 11 firearms, one of which might have been used in the murder of Manoj Upadhyay, the Chairman of Bhadreswar Municipality.
Upadhyay was shot dead from point blank range when he was returning home late at night on November 21. A senior police officer of Chandannagar police commissionerate said that they came to know about the firearms after interrogating the accused, who had already been arrested by the police. The arms were found from a bush at Noapara area of Chandannagar.
Eleven rounds of cartridges were also found from the spot.
It may be mentioned that police have already arrested Raju Chowdhury, Ratan Chowdhury, Krishna Chowdhury, Akash Chowdhury, Rajesh Chowdhury, Santosh Prasad and Debu Pakre from Benaras in this connection so far. During interrogation they revealed that Upadhaya was murdered in presence of Raju. Sources said that the accused told police that there had been a tussle between Raju and Manoj for the past few weeks over eviction of a cowshed in the area. Manoj wanted to evict the cowshed as it had been creating trouble for the residents of the area.
The police officer said that both the scooters had been used during the crime. As the investigation progressed, they came to know that the perpetrators had kept a tab on the victim for some days ahead of the crime.
