Cops seize 500 gm heroin from Murshidabad, two held

Kolkata: A huge quantity of heroin worth around Rs 50 lakh in the international market was seized by the police on late Saturday night from Samsergunge in Murshidabad.

Two persons have been arrested in this connection so far. Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided Dhulian CG Patel
More area late on Saturday night and seized heroin weighing around 500
gm and arrested the two accused identified as Anikul Seikh and Saibul Seikh.
Both are residents of Lalgola police station area. The accused has been booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances
Act, 1985.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the accused might have been a part of an inter-state smuggling racket.
They have come to know from the investigation that the accused were trying to smuggle the heroin to Jharkhand.
During interrogation, the accused told police that they were assigned to take the bag containing heroin,
up to the Jharkhand border and he did not have any further information
about the racket.
Police were trying to know the names of the other accused who are involved in the incident.
According to a senior police officer in the district, those involved in the trade procure the heroin from across the border and process it in the village.
In another incident Murshidabad police have arrested one person and
seized fake currency worth Rs 8 lakh from his possession.
Acting on specific information, police arrested the accused.
Police suspect that these fake currency notes were smuggled into the country from Bangladesh.
