Cops recover explosives from truck in Birbhum, 2 arrested

Police recovered a huge amount of explosives from a truck at Birbhum's Nalhati on late Wednesday night. The incident triggered tension in the area.

Acting on a tip-off Birbhum police and CRPF raided the truck and seized detonators worth around Rs 1.80 lakh. After getting information, the Birbhum district police along with the CRPF jawans were conducting checking at various points. When the checking was going on at Khabpur area under Nalhati police station, a truck driver aroused the police's suspicion and they stopped the vehicle before it had reached the checking point. Policemen caught the vehicle and carried out a search. They found that the truck was loaded with various explosive substances. It was learnt that after the police intercepted the vehicle, both the truck driver and the helper tried to flee the spot. But they were easily caught by the policemen who were present at the checking point. The driver and the helper of the vehicle were taken to the police station and were arrested by the police after brief questioning.

Police said that the two were the residents of Telangana. Police were interrogating the accused to know where they were taking the huge amount of explosives and detonators. The investigating officers came to know some important information relating to the incident. Police are yet to divulge any further information relating to the incident. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the consignment was coming from out of the state. Police are yet to confirm where the explosives were being taken. The driver and the helper are being interrogated.
