Cops nab stolen mobile dealer from Metiabruz

Kolkata: The watch section of Detective Department, Kolkata Police has nabbed a person from Metiabruz for allegedly dealing in stolen mobile phones.

According to sources, on Monday night police officials were tipped-off about a person in Metiabruz area, identified as Sheikh Ashif of Budge Budge in South 24-Parganas. The source also told police that he receives stolen mobile phones from a few mobile lifters and snatchers and trades in them later.

Acting on the information, a team from the watch section conducted a search of Ashif's premises in Metiabruz and found 6 tablets and 29 smartphones, including two iPhones.

During interrogation, the accused person informed police that he is a habitual offender and had been arrested earlier. He receives mobile phones from snatchers and mobile lifters who operate in the Santoshpur and Metiabruz areas.

After receiving the phones he used to erase all data from them and sell them on the open market. Till date police have managed to get hold of snatchers and mobile lifters but after Ashif's arrest, it is assumed that more stolen mobile phones will be recovered.

He is also being interrogated to nab more such mobile lifters and snatchers who used to work for him.

Police are also trying to locate the owners of the recovered mobile phones through their IMEI numbers. A list of the mobile phones has been sent to other police stations to identify the owners through the complaint files.
