Cops nab stalker for harassing Arunima Ghosh
Kolkata: The Cyber Crime Cell of Kolkata Police has arrested a person identified as Mukesh Kumar Shaw, for allegedly stalking and posting abusive words on social media against eminent Tollywood actor Arunima Ghosh.
According to police, Ghosh had lodged a complaint at the Cyber Crime Cell on May 30, stating that a person was continuously harassing her on Instagram since the last six months. Ghosh alleged that not only did the accused use abusive words, but he also threatened her with dire consequences if she did not reply to his messages.
Despite Ghosh blocking the accused person's profile, he continued stalking her through multiple fake profiles he had created. He even managed to get information regarding her family members as well.
While probing the case, sleuths managed to identify the Internet Protocol (IP) address by tracking the profiles which Ghosh had blocked earlier. After the IP addresses were detected, sleuths got hold of the address of the accused.
Shaw owns a grocery shop in Survey Park area. On Monday morning, after final information came regarding Shaw's address, police raided his shop in Survey Park and arrested him. Shaw was produced at Bankshall Court and was remanded to police custody till July 28.
Sleuths are trying to ascertain the motive behind the crime. It is suspected that Shaw might have been doing the act out of perversion.
On Monday, after getting the news of Shaw's arrest, Ghosh thanked the Kolkata Police and stated that she was finally relieved as the culprit has been arrested.
