Cops nab 2 while smuggling over 2 lakh Euro to Bangkok

Kolkata: Police have arrested two persons from Kolkata airport, who had been carrying around 2,28,500 Euro, concealed under their shoes.
They were intercepted by the customs on Tuesday night, a few minutes after they had entered the airport. They were set to board a Bangkok-bound flight. The customs officials suspected that the duo was carrying something under their shoes. They were asked to remove their shoes.
The officials found that they were carrying the foreign currency under their shoes. They had concealed them under the shoe in such a manner that they could not be seen unless one cuts the shoe sole open. They were later handed over to the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose police station. The accused failed to provide any specific reason as to why they were carrying the foreign currency. There were irregularities in their statement also.
After a prolonged interrogation, police finally arrested the accused. They have started a detailed probe into the incident to find out their motive behind carrying the foreign currency to Bangkok.
According to the preliminary investigation, police said that both the accused hail from Uttar Pradesh. The accused have been identified as Bishist Kumar and Anup Sreneth.
Police are investigating to know if some other persons have been involved in the incident. Police said that the foreign currency recovered from them is worth Rs 1.72 crore in Indian currency.
