Cops going all out to prevent trouble during nominations

Kolkata: The police are taking all necessary steps to check trouble at the origin itself, before it turns bigger. The step has been taken to avoid stray incidents, which are taking place in certain parts of the state, over filing of nominations for the Panchayat polls.
Directions have been given to the top brass of district police, so that necessary steps are taken to stop the people trying to create trouble, before they can manage to reach near offices of Block Development Officers (BDOs) or Sub-divisional Officers (SDOs).
The step has been taken after the senior officers of the state police noticed that some incidents had taken place near these offices and henceforth, led to the inconvenience of common people. Meanwhile, additional policemen have been sent to Birbhum, from where reports of incidents of clashes have been received by the senior officers of the state police. A senior police officer said a team comprising 50 personnel of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) has been sent to Birbhum, to ensure that the situation remains under control.
At the same time, the police are taking action as and when required to maintain the law and order situation, during the process of filing nomination.
At the same time, the police are also conducting raids in order to make preventive arrests, to avoid any untoward incident during the Panchayat polls, which is scheduled to take place on May 1, 3 and 5.
In the past 24 hours, police have made 1,785 preventive arrests, of which 303 people were arrested in connection with specific cases and 568 warrants have been executed. At the same time, the police have also recovered 17 firearms and 20 bullets, while conducting raids at different places across the state since Thursday evening.
It may be mentioned that there was some trouble at Bhangar, in which two persons have received minor injuries. Police have taken necessary steps to avoid any more trouble in the area.
