Cops arrest two arms dealers in separate cases from state

Kolkata: Police arrested Prabhas, a firearms smuggler from his Burnpur residence, West Burdwan, on Tuesday. They came to know his whereabouts while probing a murder case.

Police had arrested Milton Sen and his son Sagar along with one Ajay in connection with the murder case of businessman Rana Banerjee. According to sources, during the interrogation, the trio revealed to that they had bought firearms from one Prabhas Banerjee, a resident of Kulinpara at Burnpur's Hirapur area, thereby, leading to the arrest. During the police raid, a huge cache of arms including six pistols and 792 cartridges were recovered from his residence.

In another incident, Kolkata Police arrested a 49-year-old man, Sk Jabbar Hussain from the crossing of Gokul Baral Street and Nil Ratan Sarkar Sarani street, at Munchipara on charges of possessing illegal firearms.

Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted a raid and apprehended the accused. The accused had gone to sell firearms to a dreaded criminal, who somehow managed to escape when the police conducted the raid. Hussain has been remanded to police custody till November 27. This not his first arrest, he had also been arrested by Girish Park police in 2014.
