Cops arrest member of drug smuggling racket from New Market

Kolkata: In a breakthrough, the Kolkata Police arrested a member of a drug smuggling racket from New Market area in Central Kolkata late night on Thursday.

Police said the accused, SK Sahid, alias Bachcha Sahid (30) is a resident of Mallickpur near Baruipur in South 24 Parganas.

Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid in the area and arrested the accused when he was heading to the location where he was about to hand over the consignment to some of his counterparts. The police received information that a man was moving around at one particular place at New Market for a long time since the evening and it had led to the suspicion.

Police recovered charas weighing around 1.45 kg that worth Rs 1.7 lakh. Around Rs 1,000 in cash was also found from him.

He was produced before a city court on Friday and he was remanded in judicial custody till November 6.
