Cop roughed up by drunk youth, aides

An assistant sub-inspector of police was beaten up by a drunken man and his associates while he was conducting a check at Gopal Nagar area on late Wednesday night. Police said that the victim Adhir Mondal, an assistant sub-inspector, was performing his duty on the

Chakdah-Bongaon Road. He stopped a youth in Gopal Nagar as he was in an inebriated state and misbehaved with the police. The accused manhandled the police officer.

Within few moments, the accused called up his friends and narrated them the whole incident. Within few minutes around 30-35 persons reached the spot and started beating up the policeman. After being informed, other policemen reached the spot and rescued the Mondal and was taken to a local hospital.
