Cop manhandled by bikers stopped for riding recklessly

Kolkata: A police officer was allegedly manhandled by reckless bikers when the former tried to stop them on Kalim Lane in the city late Friday night.
The police have not, however, divulged the name of the victim who was rushed to a private hospital by some of his colleagues where he is currently undergoing treatment. The police have detained two persons for interrogation who were suspected to be involved in the incident.
An ASI of Kolkata Police who is currently posted at the Park Street police station was on duty at Kalim Lane on late Friday night when he found three bikers were recklessly riding their motorcycles. They were not even wearing helmets. After seeing the incident, the cop tried to stop the accused. As he stopped the bike, the accused youth started a quarrel with the police personnel. It soon turned ugly when the accused pounced on the victim. They punched on his face and chest. The accused were also abusive. Police are yet to determine if the accused were in drunken state.
They started beating up the officer indiscriminately. The accused also tore the police uniform. The helpless officer failed the catch the three accused who had overpowered him. After being informed, some other police personnel rushed to the spot to his rescue. The accused youth, meanwhile, fled from the spot immediately after the incident. The victim was rushed to a private hospital in Alipore as he suffered injuries on his body. Following the incident, some police officers reached the spot on late Friday night and started a probe in this regard.
Police are also going through the CCTV footages of the area to identify the accused. After starting the probe, police detained two persons in this connection so far. Police are conducting raids to nab the culprits who were involved in the crime.
