Cop dies in accident on NH-2, son injured

An Officer-in-Charge (traffic guard) in Asansol was killed and his son injured in a road accident in which a truck ran over the officer when he fell on National Highway 2 in Durgapur after his bike was hit by another truck. The incident took place on Monday morning.

Police said the victim, Sashibhusahn Tiwari, was riding pillion on the motorbike that his son Abinash was driving.

The OC fell on the middle of the road while his son fell aside. Within a moment another speeding truck ran over the OC. His son received minor injuries.

Meanwhile, some people gave a different version to the police stating that they fell on the road while taking a U-turn and a speeding truck ran over the OC. The trucks, however, managed to flee the spot soon after the accident.

However, policemen rushed to the spot soon after receiving the information and took the OC to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead. The incident led to tension in the area. A large contingent of police was pressed into action to ensure that situation remains calm and peaceful.

The police have initiated a search for the vehicles and the errant drivers. Footages of surveillance cameras installed in the area are being scanned to identify the vehicles.

The police would also speak to Abinash to know what had exactly happened whenever he is out of trauma. It may be mentioned that four persons were killed in three separate road accidents in different parts of the state on Sunday.
