Cooch Behar ZP's Independent candidate joins TMC

Kolkata: The Cooch Behar Zilla Parishad became opposition free on Sunday with the Independent candidate who had managed to win a single seat in the Panchayat polls joining the Trinamool Congress. Krishna Kanta Burman had won a single seat in Cooch Behar in the Panchayat elections which was held in 20 districts across the state on May 14.
Out of the 32 Zilla Parishad seats in Cooch Behar where voting had taken place, the TMC now has won in 32 after the joining of the Independent candidate.
Burman on Sunday visited the Naktala residence of TMC secretary general Partha Chatterjee and expressed his willingness to join the party. Burman had contested the elections as an Independent as he was unhappy over the fact that he was denied a TMC ticket. "Burman was one of our party members who had contested the election as an Independent. He has expressed his desire to return to TMC. We have decided to take him back. I will speak to our party leadership regarding the same and would like to welcome him back," Chatterjee said.
Burman was accompanied by TMC leader Kunal Ghosh. It may be mentioned that the Trinamool Congress had won all the seats of Zilla Parishads in as many as 10 districts. Cooch Behar is the 11th in the list.
