Cong MLA Shaoni Singh Roy joins TMC in Murshidabad

Kolkata: Shaoni Singh Roy, a Congress MLA from Murshidabad Assembly constituency, joined Trinamool Congress on Monday. Earlier, Apurba Sarkar, another Congress MLA from Kandi and Rabiul Islam from Rezinagar, had joined Trinamool Congress. With the joining of three MLAs, Trinamool now has seven MLAs in Murshidabad.
The massive vote bank erosion of Congress has become evident now. There are two Congress MPs - Adhir Chowdhury and Abhijit Mukherjee and one CPI-M MP - Mohammad Badruddaza. The grip of Adhir Chowdhury over the district is becoming weak fast. Chowdhury has failed to keep the Zilla Parishad under his control and subsequently, the Baharampur municipality has come under Trinamool.
After winning the 2016 Assembly election, Mamata Banerjee deputed Subhendu Adhikari to look after the party's organisation in the district. Adhikari not only increased the organisational strength of the party, but also became successful in bringing the Congress MLAs under Trinamool's fold.
Trinamool is now gearing up for the ensuing Panchayat elections and the joining of the MLAs will help the party immensely.
