Complaint filed against SSKM for extracting eyes of deceased infant

Kolkata: Family members of a 3-year-old boy who was taken to SSKM Hospital after sustaining serious injuries during an accident leading to his death, lodged a complaint at Bhawanipore police station on Friday bringing serious charges against the state's only super speciality hospital.

They alleged that both the eyes of the deceased boy have been removed, which has been revealed following postmortem. SSKM Hospital authorities have, however, assured full cooperation with the police investigation. The victim, Faisal Ali, a resident of Lutbagan of Kamarhati in North 24-Parganas, was seriously injured after being hit by a car. He was playing on the street close to his house on 7 July. He was immediately taken to the School of Medicine and Sagore Dutta Hospital by his family members.

The doctors at the hospital transferred the patient to SSKM Hospital after his condition deteriorated. The doctors there had started his treatment on the same day. The family members of the victim were told on Sunday morning the patient had succumbed to his injuries.

After the body was handed over to the family members, they found that his eyes had been extracted. The matter was taken up with the local police station, before the family members registered the final complaint with the city police.

Feroz Ali, the victim's father who is a jute mill worker, demanded a high level inquiry into the incident.
