College principals in doubt over CBCS

Kolkata: At a time when Calcutta University is gearing up to introduce Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in Arts and Science, principals of some colleges in the city have expressed doubts whether CBCS can be implemented from this academic year citing lack of infrastructure in their colleges.
It may be mentioned that CBCS has been implemented in all the subjects of BCom, however, subjects in BA and BSc are more than that of Commerce so, CU has declared implementation of
CBCS from the academic year 2018-19. "We are consulting experts and are trying our best to start CBCS in BA and BSc right from this year," said Dipak Kar. Pro Vice- Chancellor (academic), CU.
The matter has been discussed at the syndicate meeting whch is the highest decision making body of the varsity and the infrastructural problem with some colleges have been discussed. "We are hopeful of overcoming them and starting CBCS by this academic year," a senior
CU official said.
The principals of some colleges, however, feel they lack the infrastructure for CBCS and a meeting in this regard has been called on March 10 where a workshop will be held to address this issue.
The CU authorities will hold a meeting with top officials of Board of Studies for Arts on March 3 and 4.
It may be mentioned that the university is already prepared to implement CBCS system in as many as 20 science subjects.
