CM's music CD set to enthrall Kolkatans during Puja revelry

Kolkata: A CD of Bengali songs written and composed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee titled Mati, will be a star attraction in the forthcoming Durga Puja.

This is the first time that a CD containing songs written and composed by Banerjee will be released. Priced at Rs 50, the CD has been made by Octave Records.

The CD contains seven songs which have been sung by star singers like Indranil Sen, Rupankar Bagchi, Monomoy Bhattacharya, Jojo, Shantanu Roy Chowdhury and Lopamudra Mitra.

Sen, Minister of State for Information and Cultural Affairs, has sung two songs, namely Pahar kande sabuj kande and Mati amar moner foshol. Rupankar has sung Akash tumi bristi dile, while Monomoy has sung Mago tomar bhalobasae.

Jojo has sung Iki uki buki hamba hamba ho, while Shantanu Roy Chowdhury has sung De dol dol while Lopamudra Mitra has sung Chilo ekta chotto meye.

Despite her busy schedule, Banerjee writes poems and songs and makes sketches besides playing tunes on an electric organ. During her tour in the United Kingdom, while taking a stroll in London, she had taken the piano accordion from a musician and played the tune of Sare Jahanse Accha.

Mati or Mother Earth has always attracted Banerjee. She has written several poems on conservation of earth and nature and has declared July 12 as Save Water Save Life Day.

Banerjee composed the songs and presented them to Indranil Sen, who approved them. The recording was done later.

The music arrangement has been made by Kunal Chakraborty. Well known musicians Jay Bhattacharya, Biswajit Dasgupta, Trisha Parui and Suman Chakraborty have played various instruments.
