CMRI ransacking: Prime accused lands in police net

Police arrested the prime accused of the Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) ransacking case on Wednesday. Muhammad Shakil, the accused fled soon after the incident and was absconding for several weeks.

The investigators from Alipore police station arrested him from one of his hideouts. It may be recalled that an unruly mob damaged the properties of CMRI hospital at Ekbalpore area of South Kolkata in February.

The people beat up several hospital staff including doctors after the death of a child who had been brought there for treatment.

The irate mob had alleged that medical negligence during the treatment was the only reason of that child's death.

The girl was admitted there with stomach ache and the doctors claimed that they had decided to go for a surgery but the patient died before they could do anything.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had earlier said that stern actions would be taken against those who ransack government and non-government properties.

By that time, police started raiding to nab the accused of CMRI ransacking case. The investigators were on the lookout of Shakil who was arrested on Wednesday.
