CM visits old-age home ahead of Durga Puja
Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee invited residents of a home for the elderly in South Kolkata to her house on the day of Kali Puja.
Banerjee visited the home, Navanir, on the day of Chaturthi on Sunday. She is a regular to this place and meets its elderly members during the time of Durga Puja.
Later, she tweeted: "Today I spent some quality time with the residents of Navanir, a home for the elderly. Our senior generations, who have brought us up with so much love and care, deserve our company and attention. My humble regards to all of them and best wishes on the occasion of Durga Puja."
Banerjee spoke to the elderly at Navanir and they too shared their feelings with the Chief Minister. They were found visibly happy as Banerjee went to meet them during the Puja like all the other years.
They asked her to come to their home again and they also assured her of visiting her house on Kali Puja.
For several years now, residents of this home have been visiting the Chief Minister on Kali Puja.
The elderly always try to keep themselves fit inorder to visit the Chief Minister on Kali Puja.
Firhad Hakim, the state Municipal Affairs minister and Indranil Sen, Minister of State for Information and Cultural Affairs department accompanied the Chief Minister to the home.
Firhad Hakim and Sen will take the elderly for a trip to popular Puja mandaps on the day of Asthami. All arrangements will be made so that they don't face any inconvenience while visiting the mandaps.
Banerjee also stressed on giving company to the elders. She has already taken several steps for women empowerment in the state.
Guv greets people ahead of celebrations
Kolkata: Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi on Sunday greeted the people of the state ahead of Durga Puja festivity and wished that people of all communities would "wholeheartedly participate" in the celebrations. "Durga Puja is the symbol of victory of good over the evil. The festival generates an atmosphere of joy and promotes the spirit of common brotherhood amongst all the people of different walks of life irrespective of caste, creed or religion," he said. "I am sure that people will wholeheartedly participate in the Puja celebrations. I pray for their well-being and happiness during the festive season. I also pray for the prosperity of the nation," he said.
