CM visits Kushmandi gangrape victim
Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday paid a surprise visit to Malda Medical College and Hospital, to see the Kushmandi gangrape victim.
After holding a public rally in Malda, Banerjee went to the hospital to visit the victim, who has been fighting for her life. The CM inquired about her condition from the team members of the medical board, which was formed for her treatment on Monday. She asked the attending doctors and nurses if she was responding to the treatment. Banerjee instructed the hospital authorities to ensure that the patient's condition improves.
A senior official of the hospital reportedly told the CM that they were closely monitoring the situation to provide the best treatment to the patient.
The victim, a mentally challenged woman, was allegedly gangraped and tortured with an iron rod in South Dinajpur's Kushmandi on Saturday night.
Some passerby had rescued the victim and rushed her to Raigunj District Hospital. She was later shifted to Malda Medical College and Hospital as her condition deteriorated.
