CM to inaugurate Bengal's largest cement plant today

Salboni: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will inaugurate the 2.4 metric tonne (MT) cement factory of JSW Group at Salboni in West Midnapore on Monday.
A day ahead of the inauguration of the largest cement plant in Bengal, construction of which had started in January 2016 and had come up at the cost of Rs 800 crore on 134 acres of land, the group has announced the investment of another Rs 400 crore in the cement and power industry in the state.
This comes as a significant development for the state ahead of the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) that is going to be held on January 16 and 17.
Appreciating the support extended by the state government in setting up the industry at Salboni, Parth Jindal, managing director of JSW Cement, said: "Another 1.2 MT cement manufacturing unit will be set up at Salboni. There will be an investment of Rs 300 crore for the cement plant and the 1.8 MW power plant will come up with an investment of Rs 100 crore."
"The Chief Minister and Chief Secretary have extended all support, and it has helped in setting up of the 2.4 MT cement factory within the stipulated time. Local people have also extended their support, Monday is going to be a historic day when the cement plant will be inaugurated," said Jindal, adding that jobs have already been given to 155 of those who had parted with their land.
He said 492 had given their land in Salboni. Of them, 155 have already been provided jobs in the 2.4 MT cement plant. The rest are going to be absorbed in the upcoming power plant, youth academy and the super speciality hospital at Salboni, that will be run jointly by the state government and JSW Group as a part of its CSR project.
The JSW Group has 4,334- acre of land at Salboni, on the part of which the 2.4 MT cement plant has come up, and the rest of the announced projects are also going to come up. The talks on the potential use of the land are underway between the group and the state government.
A proposed paint manufacturing unit of the JSW Group will also come up at Salboni and the work to develop a youth football academy has also been started at Salboni.
With the commissioning of the cement factory at Salboni, JSW Cement also plans to increase its production capacity to 20 MT by 2020 and is also bidding for Binani Cement of 11 MT and Kalyanour of around 1 MT. The Chief Minister and senior officials of the state government will be present in the inaugural programme of the cement plant. It was on January 6 in 2016, when the Chief Minister had inaugurated the commencement of construction of the cement plant.
At the same time, a benefit distribution programme will also be held from the same place.
The Chief Minister will be handing over different benefits among West Midnapore denizens.
Security has been tightened up to avoid any untoward incident. Additional policemen have been deployed, and both the bomb and dog squads have undertaken frisking operations at the venue.
