CM inaugurates popular S Kol Pujas, festive issue of 'Jago Bangla'

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee urged the youths to read Jago Bangla, the party's mouthpiece, to get positive and unbiased information.

She unveiled the festival issue of Jago Bangla during a function at Nazrul Mancha on Saturday afternoon.

Banerjee said there are plans to make Jago Bangla a daily newspaper. "It will take some time as we are busy with other works," she said and added: "The state government never gives advertisements to the party organ."

Party leaders including Partha Chatterjee, Abhishek Banerjee, Derek O' Brien, Mala Roy, Shashi Panja, Shantanu Sen and Indranil Sen were present at the function along with Sandhya Roy, Ashima Bhattacharya, Joy Goswami and Nrisingha Prasad Bhaduri.

She said the contributors write in Jago Bangla without any remuneration. Recollecting its earlier days, she added: "Parthada and myself had started Jago Bangla. From the dais of the movement at Singur and Nandigram, we used to write that later got published in the party's mouthpiece. But now the readership has gone up and many people who read it

regularly have told me that they enjoy reading it."

She urged the people to put up fights to save Bengal.

Banerjee released Mati, a CD containing seven songs which have been written and composed by herself. Indranil Sen, noted singer and the Minister of State for Information and Cultural Affairs has sung two songs while Rupankar Bagchi, Manomoy Bhattacharya, JoJo, Santanu Ray Chowdhury and Lopamudra Mitra have sung the other songs.

Banerjee said though the weather is not that great to hold the festival, yet people are excited to join the biggest extravaganza. She urged people from all communities to join the festival. "Earlier, Durga Puja used to be organised for four days but now, it is being celebrated by the big Puja committees one day before Mahalaya," she said. Banerjee inaugurated Naktala Udayan Sangha organised by state Education minister Partha Chatterjee. She also inaugurated the Pujas at Babubagan, Jodhpur Park, 95 Palli, Kalighat Milan Sangha and painted the third eye of Ma Durga at Chetla Agrani. Banerjee did Chandi paath and prayed for peace and prosperity.
