CM expected to deliver message of politics-free education institutions

Kolkata: Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee is expected to deliver the message of a politics-free educational institutions when she addresses the foundation day ceremony of Trinamool Congress Chattra Parishad on Monday. She will be directing the students on how to raise the level of education and maintain discipline in the institutions across the state.
"Every year we eagerly wait for this day when Didi gives instructions to the students on how they should work to improve the education standard. She always says that admission should be on the basis of merit and the student leaders in colleges should not get involved in the admission process," a senior TMCP leader said. In recent times, Banerjee had cautioned TMCP leaders against taking money from students and later giving them admissions through the back door. "The government is all set to introduce the model of student council and students at some universities have agitated against the move. Banerjee may also touch upon this issue," the leader said. "Some Opposition parties are trying to create violence and disturbance at the educational institutions across the state. But we will thwart any such attempts," the student's wing president Jaya Dutta said.
The excitement is clearly evident with nearly 8,000 students and youth coming to the city from North Bengal braving the flood like situation to listen to Banerjee's speech. The panchayat elections are scheduled next year, followed by the Lok Sabha elections in 2019. "Banerjee may also provide instructions to the youth about how they should gear up for the elections," a student leader said.
For the first time, the students who have secured top positions across the state will be felicitated in the event.
