Class XI student roughed up by headmaster, plaint filed

Kolkata: A Class XI student of Behala High School was allegedly beaten up by the headmaster of the school on Monday morning when he had come to appear for an examination. The parents of the student Sayan Sarkar had lodged a complaint with Parnasree police station against the headmaster of the institution Debasish Bera.
As per the complaint lodged with the police, Sayan, a student of the Arts stream of the school was entering school to sit for Bengali examination when he was stopped at the gate by the headmaster.
He allegedly told the child that he has been wearing a black badge in his hand and will not be allowed to enter school wearing that.
However, Sayan showed him his hand and said that he was not wearing any such things. However, the headmaster insisted and
said that he had dropped it on seeing him standing at the gate. Following the altercation,
Sayana alleged that he was beaten up.
As soon as his parents received the news, they along with some neighbours, went to the school and were prevented from entering the school citing reasons that the examination was going on.
The headmaster of the school Debasish Bera, however, denied such an act. "He often used to carry mobile phones to the school which is not permitted. He did the same today (Monday) and was reprimanded for it. I have had an operation on the right hand, how can I beat him?" he reasoned.
The school authorities lodged a counter complaint at Parnasree police station against the parents and some unknown outsiders for trying to forcibly enter the school.
