Class X girl found dead with wrists slit in bathroom of reputed school

Kolkata: A student of Class X studying in a renowned English-medium school in Ranikuthi area was found dead on Friday in a washroom of the institution with injury marks on both her wrists. A plastic sheet was also found covering her face when she was rescued.

According to sources, on Friday, the school authority noticed that a girl went inside the bathroom but did not come out after a long time.

Almost after 20 minutes, around 2:10 pm, a few staff members went to the bathroom and found the door locked. Despite repeated attempts, there was no response.

Meanwhile, one of them heard the girl moan from inside the bathroom.

Immediately, they broke open the door and found the girl lying "lifeless". Her face was reportedly covered with a plastic and she was bleeding profusely from both her wrists. The girl was rushed to a private hospital at Jodhpur Park area where she was declared brought dead. It is suspected that she might have died due to excessive blood loss.

According to police, a three-page suicide note was found in which she had written about the unbearable pressure that she was facing from the school and her parents.

It was learnt that she was a bright student and was one of the toppers. After a few hours of the incident, senior officials of the Kolkata Police went to the school. Also, members of the forensic science department collected samples and sent them for examination.

Sources informed that some blades which are generally used in pencil sharpeners were found with blood stains from the bathroom.

Later Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, who is also the acting Joint CP, Crime, said: "We are investigating the matter. A suicide note has been found in which she has spoken about facing immense pressure. We will send the note to a handwriting expert. We will also talk to her parents later as they are in a state of shock right now."

Sources informed that the class teacher and some other staff members of the school have been questioned by the police officials. Sleuths are waiting for the autopsy and forensic reports.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has sought a report on the incident from the Chief Secretary and the school authority over the alleged suicide of the student.

Incidentally, in December 2017, two physical training instructors of the same school were arrested following allegations of sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl inside

the premises, which led to a massive agitation by the guardians.
