Class VIII girl molested after turning down proposal

Kolkata: A Class VIII girl was allegedly molested by one of her neighbours after she turned down his indecent proposal.

The incident took place at Basirhat area of North 24-Parganas on Sunday morning. It was learnt that the accused, Suvojit Bachar, had been teasing the girl for the past few months but she did not raise the issue with her family out of fear of being attacked by the accused who is associated with the local miscreants.

On Sunday the incident turned ugly when the victim was returning home on her bicycle. The accused stopped her way and gave an indecent proposal. As she readily turned down his proposal, the accused molested her. The girl became traumatised and informed the matter to her family members after her return. The accused, however, threatened the victim of the dire consequences if she makes the incident public.

As the matter came to light, the locals ransacked the house of the accused. The family members of the victim also lodged a complaint at the local police station on the basis of which police have started an investigation.

Police said that the accused and his family members have been at large since the incident came to light.
