Class II student falls off school bus, leg crushed

Kolkata: A Class II student of Kendriya Vidyalaya No 2 in Salt Lake was critically injured when he was trying to board the school bus.
The accident took place at around 2.30 pm on Monday when the victim, Arpit Ranjan, was trying to board the school bus when the vehicle started to move. As a result of this, Arpit lost his balance and fell on the ground following which the rear wheel of the bus went over the victim's left leg critically injuring it. The incident triggered tension in the locality. After hearing the boy screaming, the bus driver stopped the vehicle. The local people rescued the victim and sent him to a private hospital in the city. The locals also drew the attention of the school authorities about the incident.
It was learnt that the after the school got over, the victim came running to the place where the bus was parked. The driver was careless when he moved the vehicle forward without noticing that a student fell on the ground while boarding the vehicle. It was learnt that Arpit's injuries are serious. He has been kept under close monitoring.
After the incident, some of the guardians questioned as to why the bus driver who ferries little children was so careless. This happens at a time when the state Transport department has been carrying out a rigorous campaign against rash driving by a section of pool car and school bus drivers.
It may be here mentioned that the state Transport department had brought some restrictions on school buses and pool cars to check the number of accidents. The drivers of the school buses and the pool cars in the sate were asked not to ply their vehicles in a haste. Even the speed limits had been restricted in some places.
