Clash among students' union members at Jaipuria College

Tension ran high at Jaipuria College on Monday following a clash that broke out between two factions within the students' wing of the Trainamool Congress over alleged misappropriation of fund which were meant for organising the college fest and also for publishing magazines.
Two students had received injuries on their head during the clash. They were immediately taken to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital. Police rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. The police officers, however, did not enter into the college premises. The students' union will remain closed for the next 10 days following the incident.
A former students' union leader alleged that some of the present union leaders misappropriated a fund of Rs 10 lakh given for organising students fest and publishing magazines. A quarrel broke out between the two group members which soon turned into a heated altercation. Both the group members then attacked one another resulting in the injuries on two students. Both the victims suffered head injuries. The injured victims alleged that they were beaten up in front of the police personnel but no steps were taken. The incident had triggered tension among the students. A compliant has been lodged at Shyampukur police station. It has been learnt two students who had allegedly injured the victim have been absconding since the incident had taken place.
It has been learnt the members of the students' union earlier gheraoed the college principal for over various demands. The trouble broke out after the meeting was over. On the basis of the compliant, police have started a probe in this connection. Clashes between two groups had earlier taken place in the Jaipuria College in the recent past as well.
