Civic volunteer beaten up by driver

Kolkata: A civic police volunteer was beaten up by a driver after he stopped the latter for flouting traffic signal on GT Road.
The incident took place near Bali traffic office on Sunday afternoon when the civic volunteer Gopal Bar stopped the vehicle. When he asked the driver as why he flouted signal, a quarrel broke out between the two.
Within a few minutes, the accused driver got down from the vehicle and started beating up the volunteer. Some policemen who were discharging duties in the nearby area rushed to the spot after hearing about the incident. They freed the victim from his clutches.
It was learnt that despite committing mistakes the accused threatened the civic volunteer of dire consequences. As he asked him to stop, the accused allegedly hurled abusive language on the civic volunteer and this led to a heated exchange of words between the two.
The victim later lodged a specific compliant against the accused at the Bali police station. The accused driver was then taken to the local police station for interrogation.
