City cops set up shooting range open for common people

Kolkata: The Kolkata Police have set up a state-of-the-art shooting range at Police Training School (PTS) where common people would also get an opportunity of practicing it as a sport.
The shooting range at PTS on AJC Bose Road has been developed to an Olympic standard with electronic target systems.
At the shooting range, one can test shooting skills as the step has been taken up to promote shooting as a sport. With setting up of the shooting range, common people will also get an opportunity to practice the sport.
One interested in getting an opportunity to practice shooting in the range will have to apply online to the Kolkata Police. One just needs to click on the link https://kolkatatrafficpolice.net/FiringSkills/Firingskills.aspx to apply for the same.
One needs to key in his or her details and submit it to the police online. The person needs to give details including occupation, blood group, residential address, contact details along with a photo identity proof. The applicant also needs to key in whether he or she has any prior experience of firearms. Another important aspect of it is that an applicant should not have any pending or previous criminal cases against him or her. Once the person is selected, they will be informed by the authorities about the date and time when they will be allowed to enter the range to practice shooting. One has to spend only Rs 100 to get the opportunity to practice shooting at the range. It was learnt that the fees is taken as cost of ammunition and maintenance of the arms. It may be mentioned that the Kolkata Police had earlier introduced water sports in river Hooghly for common people as a part of its community policing. The facility is available in the weekends.
