Citizenship Act protest: Leader quits BJP

BALURGHAT: South Dinajpur Zilla Parishad purta-karmadhakshya and BJP leader Mafijuddin Mian resigned the party protesting against the implementation of Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).

Coming down heavily opposing CAB, Mian said: The saffron brigade is trying to divide people on the basis of religion and ethnicity. They are now creating fear among people in India. The BJP has not right to claim papers from Indians."Answering a question about the possibility of his joining to Trinamool in future, he said: "I have not taken any decision regarding the joining TMC. I will work as an independent member in zilla parishad."

It may be noted that 18 member-led zilla parishad, Trinamool has 13 elected representatives while the BJP has five members while after quitting Mian from the party, the strength of the BJP is reduced to four. According to a source, Mian was one of the prime faces of BJP in zilla parishad. He joined BJP from Trinamool on June 24 just a few months after Biplab Mitra was banished from Trinamool for his anti-party practices and shifted to BJP. Mian was close aide to Mitra. A source said TMC on June 24 lost control of the zilla parishad after 10 TMC members switched sides to join the BJP.
