CID to take charge of Burdwan serial killer case soon

Kolkata: State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is likely to take charge of the Burdwan serial killer case soon. Since the arrest of the accused Kamruzzaman Sarkar, CID sleuths have been keeping track of the case.

During 2013, after several women were murdered, CID took charge of the investigation. A few persons were arrested on suspicion but were later found to have no connection with the case. As the case took a new turn after Kamruzzaman's arrest, CID sleuths are following the developments. Sources informed that a team of CID may visit Kalna to interrogate Kamruzzaman in connection with previous cases.

Meanwhile, Kamruzzaman's wife Jahanara Bibi demanded capital punishment for her husband after she came to know about his crimes. Bibi informed that she did not doubt him as he used to behave normally at home.

"If he has done even one murder, Kamruzzaman should be given capital punishment as it will be a lesson for other criminals. My request to the government is to help me as I have three children to raise," said Bibi.

According to sources, Kamruzzaman had been arrested earlier on two occasions for having connection with two theft cases a few years ago.

Following interrogation on Tuesday, sleuths came to know about two jewellery shops where Kamruzzaman had sold the looted ornaments. On Wednesday, the shop owners were interrogated regarding the cases. Sources informed that they admitted that Kamruzzaman had sold some gold ornaments to them.
