CID to seek DVC's reply on fund misappropriation claims

Kolkata: The state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is planning to send a letter seeking reply from Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) in connection with allegations of misappropriation of around Rs 1,600 crore by a top official of the company.
It may be mentioned that CID has already started to look into the allegations on the basis of a complaint in this regard lodged by the employees union of DVC. "We have wanted to know to what extent are they aware of this misappropriation and whether they have taken any action against the official against whom allegations of corruption has been levelled. We had also asked them whether they have conducted any internal probe against him," a senior CID official said.
CID officials feel that they should know the standpoint of DVC and their course of action before proceeding further in the investigation.
It may be noted that the state CID had sent a notice to the DVC authorities immediately after allegations of siphoning funds surfaced against the official. However, DVC did not reply to the notice. This is the second notice that CID has sent to DVC. However, CID is yet to lodge an FIR in this regard.
"We have to verify certain facts before lodging an FIR in this regard," a top CID official said. However, the sleuths have started gathering information and evidences in connection with the allegations. A senior DVC official, when contacted, claimed ignorance regarding the entire matter.
