CID summons expelled CPI(M) leader Ritabrata

Kolkata: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) issued a notice on Wednesday summoning expelled CPI(M) leader Ritabrata Banerjee for interrogation in connection with the allegations raised against him on charges of sexually assaulting a woman on the pretext of marriage.
He has been summoned to the CID's headquarter's at Bhawani Bhavan on Friday. This comes at the time when a Zero FIR has been lodged against him on Wednesday with Delhi Police in the same case.
A team comprising CID officers went to the house of Ritabrata on Wednesday evening. No one responded from inside despite being called for repeatedly by the CID officers. After becoming sure that there was no one inside the house, the CID officers pasted the notice on the door of Ritabrata's house. Sources said that the CID officers are keeping a close watch on his movement and some of his associates. During interrogation, he would also be asked about his tour to some foreign countries as it has certain relevance with the complaint lodged against him with Balurghat police station alleging rape on the pretext of marriage.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) B K Singh stated that they have received the FIR in the evening on Wednesday. "We are investigating the content of the FIR," said Singh. "We are investigating the case from all angles," said a police officer. It may be mentioned that on Tuesday, the woman went to Balurghat police station where she lodged a complaint against the expelled CPI(M) leader.
The complainant came in touch with Ritabrata through Twitter in 2016 and she later met him in Bangalore. She alleged that Ritabrata had taken her to his South Avenue Apartment in New Delhi where the incident took place.
