CID seizes Rs 2 cr from flat of MAV Raju's aide

Kolkata: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) seized Rs 2 crore cash from the flat of a close acquaintance of MAV Raju, husband of former IPS officer Bharati Ghosh, at Bansdroni on Wednesday morning.
The raid was conducted in the flat at Bansdroni, in connection with the Daspur case. Though the flat is owned by his close acquaintance, its key was with Raju and the CID officers opened the flat, after getting it from him.
Investigation revealed that Sujit Mondal, the security guard of Ghosh, had kept the money in the flat of Raju's close acquaintance.
It may be recalled that Raju was questioned for around three hours at Bhawani Bhavan on Tuesday, during which the investigating officers had come to know about the flat.
On Wednesday morning, a team comprising senior officers of CID conducted a raid at the flat.
The CID officers undertook a thorough search to find the money. CID has issued an arrest warrant against Ghosh, along with her security guard. Both have been absconding.
Sources said that Raju has failed to give any satisfactory answer to CID officers about the source of the cash found from the Bansdroni flat. According to a senior officer of CID, the entire search operation in the flat has been videographed.
The investigating officers are trying to find out from where Mondal had got the money, though they are suspecting that it has deep-rooted connection with the Daspur scam, in which names of Ghosh and her husband had cropped up.
The cash from the flat has been recovered a day after CID officers have recovered gold jewellery weighing around 1,100 gm from two lockers of the Southern Avenue branch of a nationalised bank, belonging to the former IPS officer.
