CID recovers huge cache of firearms, one arrested

Kolkata: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) recovered a huge cache of firearms and ammunitions from a house at Purbasthali in East Burdwan district on Thursday morning.
One Bhola Bhakat has also been arrested in this connection. It was the house of Bhakat from where the arms and ammunitions were being recovered.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of policemen conducted a raid in the house of Bhakat in the wee hours of Thursday. They found five single shotter pipe guns, one six-chamber revolvers, a 7.5 mm pistol and 39 bullets.
A police officer said that they received information that Bhakat is the kingpin of an arms smuggling racket. He also has connection with several arms smugglers in other neighbouring states.
The police are now trying to find out that from where he had managed to gather so many firearms and ammunition in his house. The police officer further said that they are also probing whether he had gathered such a huge cache of firearms in his house just to smuggle to some other places or he had some ulterior motive.
The police felt that some more members of the racket that is being run by the accused also stay in the same area. The police are trying to get whereabouts of the other members of the racket by interrogating Bhakat. The police officers are considering this as a major breakthrough before the Puja. The police are also trying to gather more information about other such smuggling rackets with whom Bhakar was in touch. Meanwhile, CID officers arrested two persons; Sushil Bairagi (25) and Nayan Halder (19) from Balagarh on charges of smuggling narcotics substances.
