CID files charge-sheet in fake doctors' case

Kolkata: The state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Monday presented the charge-sheet in the fake doctor case at the Bidhannagar Court. The charge-sheet was filed 89 days after the state investigating agency took up the probe on the basis of a case initiated at Bidhannagar South police station.
"The charge-sheet was filed under sections of fraud, criminal conspiracy and Section 29 of the Bengal Medical Act. The names of seven persons including four fake doctors have figured in the charge-sheet," a senior CID official said. The fake doctors whose names have been included are Naren Pandey, Ajay Tewary, Rama Shankar Singh and Dibyendu Chakraborty.
The other three persons — Ramesh Chandra Baidya, Bubai Paul and Suprakash Pandey — were owners of some private nursing homes that were associated with the practice of issuing fake certificates and degrees to the doctors.
The CID had earlier submitted a charge-sheet related to probe in government hospitals and doctors who were involved in this practice.
"Today's (Monday) charge-sheet entirely deals with investigation of private nursing homes and hospitals. All those whose names have come up are associated with private establishments," the CID official added.
All the accused named in the charge-sheet are presently in judicial custody and the CID is leaving no stone unturned to conduct custody trial of the accused. "We have the apprehension that some of them can influence the probe if they are out on bail," the CID official added.
