CID busts major arms smuggling racket, 3 held

Kolkata: In a major breakthrough, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has busted a firearms smuggling racket by conducting raid at the house of a miscreant in Bizpur in North 24-Parganas where they assembled to deliver fire arms.
The investigating officers are considering it as a major breakthrough as those three were arrested from the house of a dreaded criminal in the area.
Investigation revealed that the miscreants had assembled at the house on Thursday morning to deliver arms and ammunition.
Acting on a tip off, CID officers conducted a raid at the house of the dreaded criminal Kalyan Das in Daspara near Halisahar in North 24-Parganas.
Kalyan, who is well aware of the escape routes in the area, managed to flee despite the effort of the CID officers. The three others, who had assembled at the house, tried to followed Kalyan in order to flee the place.
But they were caught as they were not that very aware of the place. CID officers chased them for the next few minutes and arrested the trio - Bijoy Sarkar, alias Biju (23), Raja Muhuri (20) and Aman Das (22).
All the three youth are residents of Halisahar. The CID officers recovered one country made revolver loaded with one .303 ammunition and two 9 mm bullets were recovered from them.
The investigating officers have also recovered one single shorter fire arms loaded with ammunition from the house of Kalyan.
A case has been initiated with Bizpur police station under section 25(1A), 25(1B) and 35 Arms Act against all the three arrested persons and Kalyan. The arrested persons were produced before court on Thursday and they areremanded to police custody for three days.
The police initiated a search for Kalyan. The investigation revealed that Kalyan had also organised a programme at his house where he was supposed to handover firearms to his new clients.
Police suspect that there are others in this fire arms smuggling racket run by Kalyan. The investigating officers are also looking for the person who is providing fund to Kalyan.
