CID arrests 4 for running betting racket

Kolkata: Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested four persons on charges of running a cricket betting racket, at Maynaguri in Jalpaiguri on Sunday.
They were running the betting racket, at a time when the Indian Premier League matches are being played. On Sunday, there was a match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings.
Acting of a tip off, CID officers conducted a raid in a house at Maynaguri between 12.30 pm and3.30 pm on Sunday and arrested Gopal Sarkar (38), Bhola Das (32), Pravat Kangsa Banik (30) and Pankaj Saha (21).
Investigation revealed that all of them are residents of the area. Police are trying to find out for how long they were running the racket and whether others are involved. They will initiate a search if they come to know about involvement of anyone else in the racket.
During the raid, CID officers seized several documents and 10 mobile phones. Rs 3,77,620 in cash was also recovered. Investigating officers found that they were conducting betting through different websites. All four of them will be produced before the court on Monday and the CID will be pleading before the court to get them in their remand for interrogation.
The CID officers have intensified vigil to avoid such activities and would conduct immediate raids as soon as they receive information of any such betting racket.
