Kolkata: Christmas celebrations at New Town began with adda and baul songs, enthralling one and all at Swapno Bhor on Saturday.
Swapno Bhor, the only senior citizens' park in Bengal, stands on three acres of sprawling lawn and with a two-storeyed building that houses administrative office, a library, coffee corner and an auditorium on the first floor where cultural programmes, motivational talks are held regularly for senior citizens.
Poush mela will be held at Rabindra Tirtha and a documentary film festival at Nazrul Tirtha will also be organised. There will be a grand musical programme. Both Rabindra Tirtha and Nazrul Tirtha are coming up as major cultural centres where apart from residents of New Town, people from Lake Town, Bangur Avenue and even Barasat come to watch the programmes. Eco Park, the country's biggest urban park, will hold a carnival. There will be celebrations at New Town Business Club and Café Ekante.
Café Ekante, named by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is gaining huge popularity because of quality food. It has two outlets at Eco Park. Also, another has been opened near the bus stand at Action
